Magura MT7 – review

Magura is a German manufacturer with over a century of experience in motorsport.

There are many reasons to love Magura MT7 brakes. They’re very light, powerful, and also very customizable. I have been using Magura MT7 for around two years now and I wanted to share my thoughts about them with you.

Customization

Magura prepared a lot of options for customization of your brakes, from appearance to ergonomics. It’s super cool to have your bike perfectly matched, with MT7 brakes it’s super easy. There are a lot of color options for rings around the caliper, also you could order high-quality stickers to put on your levers.

The manufacturer also tried to adjust the brakes to individual needs, you can easily replace the levers and the choice of them is quite large.

Service

There are 4 brake pads in the caliper, they’re held by magnets so there’s no need for an innerspring. It’s super easy for them to put some new inside. New brake pads need some time to get into the ideal position. There are few available models of pads you could use,

MT7 brakes are fluidized by mineral oil, they’re not the easiest to bleed but with small YouTube help and a bleeding kit (I got mine for like 15€), you should be able to bleed them correctly pretty fast.

I had to bleed my rear brake after like 1,5 years of using them but it was like -10 Celsius degrees when my lever became soft. With some fresh oil, they’re working perfectly again.

I got some small loose at the levers which is the biggest minus of these brakes.

Performance

Magura MT7 brakes are very powerful and always ready for action. I was using 203mm Magura’s rotors (they’re not in the pictures) and brake pads. I have to say that I feel very good and confident with these brakes, after some levers and power adjustments they feel perfect. Brakes are rather modular than 0-1, I love that feeling. If you’re looking for some really powerful brakes MT7 would be perfect for you!
